PODPOLIANSKE CIFRY – minimalist backpack

A story of one poppy

Design “Podpolianske cifry” is inspired by embroidery from a traditional coat from the Podpolanie region. These ornaments were traditionally sewn by hand in individual pieces with small stitches and decorated with so-called “ircha”.The narrow strip of leather was wrapped around the needle in an unique way so the stitching created an ornamental pattern. “Podpolianske cifry” is a very popular design, for both ladies and gentlemen, so do not hesitate and try it yourself!

 Horou išou, horou lomiu,

domov prišjou, ženu dobiu.

This is a passage from a folk song called “Podpolianske rozkazovačky” (translating as “Commands from the Podpolanie region”). It corresponds to the superior position of a man in the Podpolanie region in the past where this type of folk song was very popular. Men were competing to be the lead singer and they would often jostle each other to have the word. Musicians had to keep up with different tempos and rhythms which completed an already challenging atmosphere. 

The design “Podpolianske cifry” was re-created in a digital form by the team Makove with final touches added by our designer Zuzka.
